Programs

Tamborine Mountain College’s intention is to provide personalised education, catering for individual optimum learning with a ‘family’ like environment. The College has set standards in the area of academics with a strong focus on core curriculum. Our academic program seeks to create confident students who develop into independent learners.

Tamborine Mountain College’s size enables us to offer a unique and personalised program for students to tailor learning programs to meet individual needs. Pastoral Care is valued at Tamborine Mountain College to reinforce the supportiveness of the school population. This is delivered through a Values program run by form teachers. Enrichment and extension programs are on offer for students to extend their learning experiences.

Tamborine Mountain College offers students a wide range of avenues to nurture and encourage students in an array of areas. Gifted and talented programs are available to ensure that students who are gifted feel that they are valued in a learning environment which both challenges and supports them to pursue excellence and develop a passion for lifelong learning. Excellence and extension programs are available for Senior Secondary students in the Arts.

The College has wireless network/Internet to all internal learning areas, ensuring connectivity to the internet and intranet. The cloud thereby allows access to materials anytime, anywhere. Chromebooks and the use of Google Apps for Education, as well as access to the virtual library for ebooks and audiobooks, are some of the examples of how ICT is used to enhance the learning experience.

The College also provides each teacher with their own laptop or tablet with connectivity to the internet and intranet. Along with data projectors and LCD monitors, these are used as teaching tools to enhance the content of a lesson. File sharing is also utilised through the Cloud/Google Drive, as well as distribution of task and revision sheets on the intranet.

Interactive whiteboards are installed in most classrooms and enable teachers to deliver lessons that cater to a wide range of learning styles and incorporate ICT.

SCHOOL BASED TRAINEESHIP/APPRENTICESHIPS

Tamborine Mountain College offers school-based traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities to selected students through the school-based traineeship program.

The objective of the program is to assist students, whilst at school, to develop skills in a workplace setting, receive nationally accredited training and a qualification that will set them up for job opportunities and a career path after their schooling is complete.

Students are able to achieve a Certificate level in their chosen industry whilst working part time as well as completing their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and working towards a Senior Statement.

A School-Based Traineeship/Apprenticeship is suitable for students who do not wish to gain an ATAR or complete tertiary education.

SENIOR STATEMENT AND QCE

At the completion of Year 12, students will receive a Senior Statement with a record of their subjects and other qualifications achieved such as a Certificate III from a School-Based Traineeship.

The Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) is a school-based qualification awarded at the completion of the senior phase of learning, usually at the end of Year 12.  It confirms a student’s achievements of:

  • a significant amount of learning – at least 20 credits. As school studies and other learning, such as SBT, are completed, these achievements or credits, as they are known, are banked and the learning account grows just like a bank account
  • a set standard of achievement – minimum SA in all subjects
  • meeting literacy and numeracy requirements – determined by a pass in English and Maths.
PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE

The Drama Excellence Program is open to senior students who wish to hone their skills in drama and performance, and boost their portfolio of theatre work. The program is designed to provide a diverse range of drama experiences through the exploration of various theatre forms and styles. Students work intensively with teachers to develop a live performance outcome for audiences.

The Arts Excellence Program for senior students provides opportunities for talented students to develop extra skills and time into their art works. Workshops are also available when recognised artists share their styles with our students.
